Actress Rhian Ramos shared on Instagram her photos while getting tattooed by Apo Whang Od, the oldest tattoo artist in Kalinga.
The 24-year-old actress captioned her Instagram posts, "Apo Whang Od started with the hawk and her granddaughter Grace finished with the scorpion. Thank you to my awesome travel buddy @salvalancer for recording every moment of this trip ?."
According to her, she chose the tattoo which she called "the scorpion and the hawk" because she considers it a symbol of her "open communication with God."
Apo Whang-Od (pronounced as Fang-Od) is known to be the last 'Mambabatok' in Kalinga. The 95-year-old tattoo artist lives in the small village of Buscalan, Cordillera Mountains. She traditionally uses pomelo thorn smeared with her self-mixed-ink and attaches to the end of a small piece of bamboo, then another piece of wood use to tap the thorn into the skin until the skin absorbs the ink.
