Jackie Chan’s Son, Jaycee (aka Fang Zuming) Arrested on Drug Charges

HONG KONG — According to reports by Chinese online and state media, Jaycee Chan (aka Fang Zuming), son of martial arts superstar Jackie Chan, has been arrested in Beijing in connection with possible drug use and was present when Taiwanese actor Kai Ko (aka Ko Chen-tung), star of “You Are The Apple Of My Eye,” was recently arrested on drugs charges.

A report from The People’s Daily, "Chan was arrested after police found 100 grams of marijuana at his home."

An agreement was organized by the Beijing Trade Association for Performances and called for the member companies to avoid giving work to celebrities that take drugs or using tainted celebrities in promotional events.

Jin Zhihai, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Anti-Drug Office, said that as public figures, stars need to provide good examples for juveniles and society.

Other recent cases involved actor Gao Hu caught taking drugs on Aug. 4, singer Li Daimo, director Zhang Yuan, screenwriter Ning Caishen actor Zhang Mo, and Hong Kong actor Roy Cheung.

It is unclear what, if any, impact Jaycee Chan’s issues will have on the trajectory of Jackie Chan. Chan senior, himself the son of a pre-war opium smuggler, has sometimes distanced himself from his son and previously said that Jaycee will not inherit any of his fortune. However Jackie Chan was recently in London promoting the U.K. release of “Chinese Zodiac.” Among the topics he discussed with The Guardian was his recent conversion to a more responsible form of parenting.

Speaking in the U.K., Jackie Chan also confirmed that he was in early talks to board fourth instalments in the “Rush Hour” and “The Expendables” franchises.

Kylie Jenner 'desperate to date Bieber'

Kylie Jenner is reportedly "desperate" to date Justin Bieber.

The 17-year-old Keeping Up with the Kardashians star has been linked to the 20-year-old singer in the past and he was one of the many wishing her a happy birthday on Twitter recently.
However, following Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci's recent lavish birthday party in Ibiza it was claimed Justin had been spending time with Kylie's model sister Kendall, 18. This is said to have upset her little sibling.

"Kendall knows full well that her sister loves Justin. Kylie's been desperate to date him for a long time, so for Kendall to hook up with him is pretty poor form," an insider told British magazine Heat. "LA is nine hours behind Spain, so it was the middle of the afternoon when Kylie saw Kendall's steamy Instagram pictures with Justin. She tried to pretend that she didn't care, but she was close to tears."
It was claimed Kendall and Justin left the party together and while that is true, new reports suggest they were actually with a big group of young people.

The sisters' family are getting involved in things too, with claims they are all siding with one of the siblings as everyone has strong feelings on the topic.
"It's caused a major split in the family, with everyone taking sides. Her mom Kris thinks it's a great idea to increase Kendall's profile - and was at the party, too, encouraging them - but her dad Bruce is really upset," the source claimed.

Filipino billionaire: Not worried about slowdownFilipino billionaire: Not worried about slowdown

Manila - Teresita Sy-Coson, one of the country's most powerful women, isn't daunted by the prospects of an economic slowdown, despite expectations for weaker growth in the Philippines this year.In fact, she sees opportunities.
According to vice chairman of SM Investments Teresita Sy-Coson "The Philippines economy has always been the same. It's just that time it attracted a lot of attention,". "This has given us a lot of benefits like low credit cost and also the stock market excitement [which] are good for business."

Last week, the World Bank lowered its growth projections for the Southeast Asian country to 6.4 percent from 6.6 percent, citing low government spending and possible monetary policy tightening from the U.S. Federal Reserve as risks for the economy which is still recovering after last year's Typhoon Haiyan.
However, Sy-Coson remains confident that her business - one of Philippines' well-known family-run conglomerates - will not be impacted: "We hope to have a higher double digit growth this year. We just have to work harder."
This attitude is perhaps a result of her identity. She is the eldest child of the country's richest man, Chinese-Filipino retail magnate Henry Sy, who founded the SM Group, which invests in numerous sectors like retail, real estate and gaming.

"We grew up in a very demanding environment. Dad expects us to prove ourselves... so my siblings and I worked hard to reach what we have today and I guess we have to continue working hard to maintain it," said Sy-Coson, who was named as one of Asia's most powerful businesswomen by Forbes in 2014.
Dubbed by the media as the heir to the Sy patriarch, the 63-year-old is known for transforming the family's small retail and savings bank, Banco de Oro (BDO), into the country's largest lender. However she said the process was "a challenging period that I would not wish on anyone," particularly when her decision in 2005 to acquire a stake into Equitable, the third-largest bank then, encountered strong resistance.
"I did not expect so much backlash just because I'm not one of the big boys. It was a very difficult process but I thought if I have to do it, I will do it right," she said. In 2007, BDO merged with Equitable to form Banco de Oro Unibank and by the following year became the Philippines' biggest financial player in terms of loans and deposits.

Moving forward, the BDO Unibank will play a huge role in Sy-Coson's pursuit for rapid growth.
"We'll like to bulk up so right now we are looking as to where the bank should go in the Southeast Asian region [over the] next two to three years. Whether there are opportunities to be a part of another bank or have a bank that will have more working arrangement with us," she said.
Sy-Coson, who is also advisor to the board of directors for SMIC's retail affiliate SM Prime Holdings, also has her sights set on the mainland's retail space.

With five shopping malls in China now, SM Prime plans to invest another $200 million to expand in the world's second-largest economy. But it is taking the unbeaten path of steering clear of first-tier cities and heading for less developed provinces.
"We are going to grow in China but as of now, it's not going to be a rush. We want to be steady," Sy-Coson said. "China is a big country, so we are looking into the ones that can bring us more bottom-line at this point. We are selective."

Why Ninoy, Cory fought for a one-term President

Cory Aquino and Ninoy Aquino

Remember the legacy of your parents, former President Corazon Aquino.

This was the call Thursday of opposition senators to President Benigno Aquino III following his admission in a television interview that he is now keeping his options open on calls to extend his stay in power.

Memorable speech in Los Angeles, February 15, 1981.

In a speech before Filipino and American guests at a freedom rally organized by the Movement for a Free Philippines, Ninoy Aquino denounced the dictator Ferdinand Marcos for his maneuverings to perpetuate himself in power beyond the end of his 8-year term in 1972.

"In 1972, Mr. Marcos was already 7 years in office, he had one year to go. He was toying with the idea of fielding Imelda but Imelda showed very poor in the polls so what did Mr. Marcos do? Change the Constitution, sabi niya, so he called a constitutional convention in 1970," the exiled senator said. "We were a few, a handful in the Senate who denounced this, and I told the Senate we should not allow an open constitutional convention because it's very dangerous."

Luneta, the 21st of September, 1997.

Around half a million people took part in a rally to send a resounding message to then-President Fidel V. Ramos -- "Don't fiddle with the Constitution to extend your stay in power."

Leading the rally was Ninoy's widow credited with restoring democracy after the dark days of the Marcos dictatorship.

"Kung sa inyong puso ay mayroong pagnanasang tumagal pa sa kapangyarihan, magiging baluktot ang tingin ninyo sa katotohanan. Gagamitin kahit anong dahilan, gagawin kahit anong paraan, manatili lamang sa inyong puwesto. Kaya po sa pagpapasya, ang conflict of interest ay talagang dapat iwasan," the former President said.

It was her 1987 Constitution that Ramos and his backers were thinking of amending to allow him to run for a second term in 1998.

For Corazon Aquino, tinkering with the charter was not merely an ethical minefield for Ramos.

She believed it could pave the way for yet another dictatorial regime to take hold of the country in the future.

She warned that the leader of the country will hear many voices urging him to stay on.

The danger is that those voices will not belong to the people but to lackeys and those with vested interests.

"They will say you are right, when you are wrong. They will say you are successful, when you fail, and will insist you are indispensable, although you are just one of 70 million Filipinos who gave you the rare privilege to be their servant but only for your elected term. They will say that nobody can take your place, when what they mean is that they do not want to give up their places," she said.

Cory said in no uncertain terms, if you've had your turn at the presidency, you should humbly and graciously move on.

"Let me tell you now, the presidency is so great an honor, no one deserves to have it again. It imposes a duty so important - to guide a whole country and protect a whole nation - that you must do it well. And if you did it well, you won't deserve to do it again," she said. "Doing your job well was your duty and not a special favor to the country. There is a secret I would like to share. The honor of the presidency is so great, no one needs to have it more than once."

Cory's last message at the Luneta rally addressed to her successor: let your good work speak for itself.

Allow the democratic processes we fought so hard for take their course and let the true voice of the people be heard.

"I trusted in you when my term was over. Trust in the Filipino," she said.

But some now say it's just as apt a message to her son 17 years later as President Benigno Aquino III entertains the notion of another six years.

In the position his father fought to preserve the integrity of.

'Banana Nite' comedian attempts to jump off hotel building

MANILA - Comedian Jobert Austria, part of the cast of ABS-CBN's late night gag show "Banana Nite," was brought to the Quezon City Police District for investigation following his attempt to jump off a hotel building in Quezon City.

Shortly after 3 p.m. on Saturday, Austria was seen leaving Hotel Sogo along Quezon Avenue with friends and co-workers, including Badjie Mortiz, the son of "Banana Nite" director Edgar "Bobot" Mortiz.
However, QCPD policemen approached the group and took custody of the comedian.

"Bahagyang nagsisisigaw si Austria nang kunin na siya ng mga tauhan ng Quezon City Police District. At dahil sinamahan siya ng isa niyang kaibigan sa mobile ay naisakay din ito, at ngayon ay dinala na sa QCPD Station 10 para maimbestigahan," radio dzMM's Robert Mano reported.

Austria attempted to jump off the 6th floor of the hotel building at around 1 p.m. He told the police that he was receiving death threats from his girlfriend's former partner.

"Nagte-text siya kanina tulungan daw namin siya, may papatay daw sa kanya. Alam nila na nandito siya, nag-aabang daw sila diyan sa labas. At first hindi ko alam ang ire-react ko. Hindi ko alam kung totoo o ano," said Badjie Mortoi.

According to fellow comedian Eric Nicolas, Austria is facing personal problems.

"Medyo na-depress yung tao dahil may problema siya yata sa kanyang girlfriend or asawa. Yung girlfriend niya, mahal na mahal niya yun, babalik na ata ng Canada so nalungkot siya," said Nicolas.

Authorities immediately responded to the scene, but Nicolas said they were disappointed with how they handled the incident.

"Kanina nandun na siya sa edge ng building, talagang tali lang ang kinakapitan niya. Konting galaw na lang hulog na siya. Ang kinaiinis lang namin, ang tagal nandoon ng tao wala pa din yung pang-salo. Lahat nakatunganga, nakatulala," he said.

He, however, lauded firefighters who were able to safely haul Austria back to his hotel room.

"Ang maganda nito sila rin, yung mga bumbero, sila rin ang humila kay Jobert, halos anim na tao ang nagtulong-tulong para mahila siya sa loob," he recounted.

Hotel officials are mulling over whether to file a case against the comedian.
